A new version of Guake must be *RELEASED*

Reported by: vitorg Owned by: somebody
Priority: Fix available Milestone: 0.4.0

Description

Because Guake becomes more popular it must have it's own Ubuntu/Debian? repository, for example at launchpad.net to quickly and useful update Guake version by users.

I actually don't agree on that for several reason:
1- Guake should be integrated in the official repo (as it is on Fedora)
2- Guake is still only one .rpm/.deb I don't see the need for a repo here...

OK, it's on your choice. But for now, for example, I can't get the latest Guake version on my Ubuntu 8.10 without creating deb manually and I must use old version 0.3.1-3 that has some bugs that annoying me.

that's IMHO another issue :) which concerns the number of release.

Do you think there would be more often an deb released even with a deb repo ?

As a maintainer of guake for Fedora: * I have back-ported some changes to the latest released version (0.3.1) * I have had to package a git version to get the release I wanted :) (ok I am also planning to package a git version of guake to push it on the test repo...)

Anyway, as you said it's on the developer side ;-) (Linlcon, Gabriel if you pass by ... :-D )

  • summary changed from Guake must have it's own Ubuntu/Debian repository to A new version of Guake must be *RELEASED*

As Pingou already said, I don't think this is the best solution, because we have no time enough to maintain guake, so we can't assume another work, like packaging guake. And the great Sylvester works on that and he always ask me for new releases.

IOW: Guake needs to be frequently released to allow people that works packaging it to distributions making their job.

So, I'll change the summary of this ticket to explain better the problem.

Thank you for your comment =)

For those that are running Fedora and are interested to test the latest features:

F10  http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=82224

F9  http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=82225

They will also hit updates-testing in few days :) (and will be in rawhide tomorrow or so)

I have fixed the version number in configure.ac to 0.4.0 and soon we'll have a new release of guake.

I think we should only wait for blocker and critical open defects. We have 4 of these bugs currently, take a look at them:
